  3. Per motivi tecnici, dovuti alla modalitα con cui Φ costruita la struttura del
  4. nostro CD-ROM, il gioco funziona solo nella modalitα "FULL INSTALL".
  5. Inoltre DEVE essere lanciato con il parametro /D1 sulla linea di comando per
  6. evitare la ricerca del CD-ROM. Sui computer da noi testati la ricerca non si
  7. svolge correttamente, impedendo il lancio corretto del gioco.

  64. 1: BC3K SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  89. 2: INSTALLATION
  90.

  93. 1. After downloading all 10 files, run the MAKEBC3K.BAT which will build the
  94.    BC3KD7C.ZIP file. The final file size should be 51,659,497 bytes.
  95.    
  96.    Verify that the zip file is ok BEFORE deleting the 10 files! Also, the
  97.    building the files into one file requires that the files be in order on
  98.    your hard drive. If they are not because you downloaded them in a different
  99.    order, you need to copy them all to another directory.
  100.  
  101. 2. Once you have the zip file, create a sub-directory and unzip the file using 
  102.    -d option for Pkzip otherwise the sub-directories will NOT be created. If
  103.    you are using a WIN95 unzip utility, be sure you set it to extract with the
  104.    folders intact! You will NEED at LEAST 120 MB to install this software.
  105.    Unzip this file into the same directory as well so that you have all files
  106.    in the same directory. The BC3K.BAT file included in this file is required
  107.    to run the game.

  109. 3. Once you have unzipped the file, run SETUP.EXE and configure your sound card. If
  110.    you are running under WIN95, you may crash your computer if you choose the
  111.    auto-detect method. Be warned.
  112.  
  113. 4. Next, using a text editor such as Notepad or Wordpad, edit the BC3000AD.INI 
  114.    file and change the 'cd-rom=' and 'home=' parameters to match your install
  115.    environment. For instance if you installed the game on your D: drive in the
  116.    D:\BC3K sub-directory, you would change the lines to read as follows.

  119.    home=D:\BC3K
  120.  
  121.    ! There is no : (colon) after the drive letter on the cd-rom= line above
  122.    ! Do NOT use your actual cd-rom letter unless you have a cd-rom in the drive

  126. 5. Once you've configured your sound card, you can start the game by either
  127.    running the BC3K.BAT file or typing BC3000AD /d1 /n . Those two switches 
  128.    disable playback of the 50MB intro (not included) and cd-rom check. Later, 
  129.    if you are going to be using any other switches, i.e, for video settings 
  130.    (see below), you should add them to this file or on the commandline.
  131.    
  132.    A DEBUG.TXT file will be created and can get quite large.  Remember to delete
  133.    it every now and then before starting the game.
  134.  
  135. 6. Once the games starts, immediately go to CONFIG from the MAIN MENU and
  136.    change any options you'd like. Read the manual BEFORE making any changes to 
  137.    the system. Most of all, do NOT enable the intro sequence or the game will
  138.    crash!

  142. 3: VIDEO PROBLEMS
  143.

  146. 1. If after you install the game you get a General Protection Fault or a
  147.    corrupted screen when it starts, you may have to configure BC3K to use your 
  148.    specific video card.
  149.  
  150.    Type BC3000AD /v? from your install directory to see the list of cards that
  151.    BC3K supports in their native mode. If you card is not listed, you MUST 
  152.    locate and use a VESA driver. You can download SCI-TECH Display Doctor from 
  153.    www.scitechsoft.com. Some of the new cards entering the market have built
  154.    in VESA 2.0 or 3.0 support so you may be able to run the VESA mode without
  155.    need for an external VESA driver.

  157.    If your card IS supported, start BC3K using the card's profile number by
  158.    typing, BC3000AD /d1 /n /vn
  159.  
  160.    Where n is the number of your graphics card returned by /v?. For example, if
  161.    your card uses the S3 chipset, you would type, BC3000AD /n /d1 /v21
  162.  
  163. 2. If your card is not supported in it's native mode, i.e, not listed when the
  164.    /v? parameter is used, then you have to use VESA mode. Load the VESA driver
  165.    for your card and then type BC3000AD /v1 to run in VESA mode. If your card
  166.    has built in VESA support, you do NOT need to install VESA driver.
  167.  
  168. 3. You MUST add this parameter to the BC3K.BAT file if you end up using it.
  169.  
  170.    NOTE: BC3K will try to auto-detect your graphics card and will revert to
  171.          VESA mode in most cases but considering the advances in graphics
  172.          cards, it may fail on new cards. So, use the method described above.
  173.          The performance using the cards native support is faster than VESA
  174.          mode depending on the type of VESA support that the card has.
  175.

  178. 4: MANUAL AND DOCUMENTATION

  182. The manual (BC3KMAN.PDF), keyboard commands (KEYBOARD.PDF) and a host of manual
  183. apppendix are located in the DOCS sub-directory.
  184.  
  185. You will need to download and install the Adobe Acrobat v3.01 also available at 
  186. the 3000AD web site or from Adobe (www.adobe.com). Direct access to the cargo 
  187. bay is at www.bc3000ad.com/cargo/cargobay_contents.html

  189. Once you've downloaded and installed the Acrobat reader, run it and use it to
  190. load the files in the DOCS directory. It also allows you to print them.

  192. Before you even think about printing the manual, be aware, it's 194 pages!

  196. 5: RUNNING UNDER WINDOWS 95

  200. Though BC3K is not supported under Windows 95 except in MS-DOS mode, some have
  201. been able to get it to run by creating a desktop shortcut using the following
  202. settings.
  203.  
  204. Refer to your Windows 95 manual for details on how to create a shortcut.
  205.  
  206. Create the shortcut on your desktop. Make sure the command line and working
  207. directory BOTH point to the BC3K install directory. Point the commandline to
  208. the BC3K.BAT file in the BC3K runtime directory.
  209.  
  210. An icon file called BC3K.ICO is provided.
  211.  
  212. Once you've created the shortcut, open it up and make the following changes
  213. to it's settings.
  214.  
  215.   Note: ON  = tick mark
  216.         OFF = no tick mark
  217.  
  218. Program - close on exit              = ON
  219.  
  220.           If you decide to run in MS-DOS mode if running from Win95 using this
  221.           shortcut doesn't work, then you can configure MS-DOS mode by
  222.           clicking on the 'advanced' tab.
